Table Seating Capacity Guide

The number of guests depends on the diameter of the table, the chair style and the amount of space required for each place setting. CaterHire’s round dining tables accommodate approximately 2 to 14 guests, depending on the table size selected.

A 5ft round table can accommodate approximately 8–10 guests. A 5ft 6″ or 6ft round table may be more comfortable when you are using larger chairs, charger plates, additional glassware or substantial centrepieces.

A 6ft × 30″ or 6ft × 36″ trestle table can accommodate approximately 6–8 guests. An 8ft × 30″ trestle table generally accommodates approximately 8–10 guests.

Tables and table linen are selected separately, allowing you to choose the most appropriate tablecloth size, colour and finish for your event. Each table in this guide includes a recommended linen size to make planning easier.

As a general guide, allow approximately 2ft or 60cm around each side of the table for chairs and guest movement. Additional space may be required for service aisles, larger chairs or busy event layouts.

The correct tablecloth size depends on the dimensions of the table and the finished drop you would like. A shorter drop is often used for casual dining, while longer or floor-length linen creates a more formal finish.
