Tablecloth Sizes for Round, Banquet & Trestle Tables

Choosing the right table linen helps create a polished finish for your event. The tablecloth size you need will depend on your table size and the drop you want to achieve.

For weddings, banquets and formal dining, a fuller drop creates a more elegant look. For parties, buffets and casual events, a shorter drop can provide a neat, practical and cost-effective solution.

Understanding the Finish

What Does “Drop” Mean?

Tablecloth drop is the amount of linen that hangs down from the edge of the table. A longer drop creates a more formal finish, while a shorter drop gives a neat and practical look.

For weddings and formal events, a longer drop is often preferred. For conferences, buffets and casual gatherings, a shorter drop can provide a smart, practical finish while using less fabric.

Tip: For the smartest event finish, choose the larger recommended cloth size. For casual events, a shorter drop or top-cover option may be perfectly suitable.
Choose Your Finish

Choose Your Desired Drop

The right drop depends on the style of your event and how formal you want the table to feel.

29"–30"Luxury / Floor-LengthWeddings, gala dinners and formal banquets.
24"–26"Formal EventWeddings, hospitality events and premium dining setups.

Simple Formula

How to Calculate the Right Tablecloth Size

Start with your table dimensions and add your desired drop on both sides. CaterHire tables are generally 29"–30" high, so a similar drop gives an almost floor-length finish.

How to calculate tablecloth size for a rectangular trestle table

Rectangular Tables

Add the desired drop to both sides of the table length and width.

Tablecloth Length = Table Length + Drop + Drop
Tablecloth Width = Table Width + Drop + Drop
How to calculate tablecloth size for a round table

Round Tables

Add the desired drop twice to the table diameter.

Tablecloth Diameter = Table Diameter + Drop + Drop

Example: 6ft × 30" Trestle Table

72" length + 18" + 18" = 108"
30" width + 20" + 20" = 70"

Recommended Linen: 70" × 108" rectangular tablecloth.

Example: 5ft Round Table

60" diameter + 29" + 29" = 118"

Recommended Linen: 118" round tablecloth.
