The Ultimate Guide for Hiring Tables and Chairs for Christmas Parties

A Christmas Party will involve lots of planning, and a key consideration is your choice of tables and chairs. We’ve compiled this handy guide to help you choose the perfect fit for your party, whether you’re hosting an intimate gathering or a full festive feast!

Determine Your Room Capacity and Seating Needs

Before delving into choosing your tables and chairs, you’ll want to determine how many guests you can realistically comfortably accommodate. Our Room Capacity and Seating Guide is a good resource for helping to simplify the process of calculating space requirements based on different layouts and seating options. Here’s a recap of our capacity calculator for seating:

Cocktail Parties Partial Seating: 6 square feet per person
Dinner Party Seated Trestle Tables: 8 square feet per person
Dinner Party Seated Round Tables: 8-10 square feet per person
Banquet Events (spacious): 10-12 square feet per person

Choosing the Right Tables

Tables play a key role in curating the perfect ambiance for a Christmas party. There are various options, such as round and rectangle tables. Round tables create an intimate atmosphere, allowing guests to sit face-to-face, ideal for cosy gatherings. They will, however, require more space. Rectangular tables can be a space-saving option and can be easily connected to accommodate larger groups if required. Check out our Guide To Table Linen Sizing & Seating Capacity if you’d like to know more about seating capacity.

For rectangular tables, popular sizes include 6ft and 8ft, whilst round tables are popular in 5ft and 6ft diameters. These dimensions offer maximum seating capacity whilst leaving enough room for table décor such as centrepieces.

Keep in mind that if you’ll be hosting a cocktail-style party, then you may wish to consider lounge furniture, bar stools and Pod, Cocktail and High Tables, all of which are available for hire here at Caterhire.ie, with options aplenty! This style of furniture is ideal for encouraging mingling and socialising among guests and creating a relaxed, informal atmosphere.
