Holy Communion 2016 - Party in Style at Home

The Holy Communion season is just round the corner and families everywhere will be in the mood to celebrate with Communion parties. Holy Communion parties are very popular and are now an essential part of the child’s special day. Celebrate this important milestone in your son or daughter’s spiritual life with family and friends at home.

These days a great deal of families are celebrating by hosting Communion parties at home but bear in mind this is not the typical children’s birthday party. You will have guests of all ages. Here are some useful hints & tips to host a successful informal buffet:

For the Food:

  • Simple dishes – guaranteed success
  • Plan food that can be prepared in advance
  • Prepare food that does not require too much “last minute” attention or prep
  • Prepare food that will not spoil with standing
  • If you are serve hot food make sure that you have enough hot trays or chafing dishes to keep food hot
  • Make sure that you have sufficient serving spoons
  • Don’t be “shy” to delegate – ask an Auntie to bake the family’s favourite chocolate cake
  • Choose a selection of dishes & desserts that are suitable for self-service and appeal to all ages

Setting-up:

  • Make sure that you have sufficient quantities and possibly a few extras for the unexpected guests on the day
  • Have chairs, linen, crockery and cutlery ready a day in advance – no use in rushing around on the day in the high heels and the lovely outfit trying to carrying in the chairs borrowed from the neighbours!!
  • Let your child choose the colour he / she would like for flowers, balloons, serviettes etc.

Always prepare for the rain just in case and hire, buy or borrow a small marquee or pop up gazebo.

Caterhire can provide everything for your special day. You can rent furniture, crockery, cutlery, glassware, linens and much much more for your party. Caterhire also stock children’s furniture. A table hosted by the Guest of Honour for his/her pals is a lot of fun. Take the stress and hassle out of your day and have everything delivered, collected and even washed up for you when the party is over (Caterhire do this for you too).

Adults can always entertain themselves by chatting and catching up with family members, but what about the children? Will you need to hire a bouncy castle, entertainer or even a DJ?

They say that a picture tells a thousand words, and that is something that can also be said about a well taken photograph. Remember to take lots of photographs of your child’s Holy Communion, and if you have a camcorder take some video clips.
