How to: Host the Ultimate Afternoon Tea at Home
Hosting an Afternoon Tea for a birthday, baby shower or even just because? Afternoon Tea is becoming increasingly popular, and thanks to our helpful how-to guide, you can easily host your own at home! Here’s everything you’ll need to make the event a success…
Plan your guest list
Decide how many guests you want to invite.
Set a date and time:
Keep in mind that afternoon tea is typically served between 2-5pm.
Select a menu:
Planning your menu in advance will help you to stay as organised as possible. A traditional Afternoon Tea will include a variety of teas, such as black tea, green tea, herbal tea, and fruit tea. It’ll also include sandwiches, typically finger sandwiches with fillings such as cucumber, ham, egg mayonnaise and smoked salmon being amongst the most popular. Scones are a must, and you may wish to choose plain, raisin or both. Don’t forget the clotted cream and jam! Bite-sized pastries, such as macarons, cakes and tarts are also served. And why not add a glass of champagne, served in our Diva Champagne Flute 7oz.
Purchase supplies:
Gather all of the necessary supplies, such as tea cups, saucers, plates, silverware, tea pot, and any serving pieces. An afternoon tea stand is a must to display your fancies, and we recommend the elegant Afternoon Tea Stand Pink (2 Tier). Serve tea from our Vintage Tea Pot into our Vintage Tea Cup and Vintage Tea Cup Saucer, whilst sandwiches and cakes can be arranged on our Vintage Sandwich Plate.
Decorate the area:
Set the table with a tablecloth, placemats, and napkins. Add flowers, candles, or any other decorations such as our Centrepieces to create a pleasant atmosphere.
Prepare the food and drinks:
Make or purchase the food and drinks you have selected. Set up a tea station with hot water, tea, sugar, and milk.
And enjoy your afternoon tea!
